1920s or 30s Spinet Desk
« on: August 31, 2011, 12:30:42 pm »
This desk appears to be a spinet desk from the 20s or 30s. It's in good condition for its age. I'm thinking of selling it since it's not the most practical desk in this day and age but it could make a beautiful entry piece for someone. I still have the original knobs, I put the current ones on for fun. What would you say I could sell this for in its current state? Here's a similar one on ebay for $650 but I've read that spinet desk don't have too much value since they were so common. Thanks so much.

Thats the thing about Ebay,, they can ask whatever price they want,,,getting it is another thing entirely !!  In most areas a desk like this would bring about $200. if in good, original condition,, give or take a bit !!  As you said, they are just not practical now days !!

Thanks, that's about the price I had in mind too but since I'm not an expert with antiques I figured I'd ask. Thanks so much for your assistance!

Unfortunately they were very popular....but as time goes on less and less will be kept!!!  So hold on to it and pass it along to family if you desire!

Thanks, I think that's what I'm going to do. I think I'm going to use it as a table instead of a desk since it's tough to use as a desk in this day and age. I may use it as a long bedside table since that's the trend right now anyway. Thanks for your advice!!
