Welcome to the forum , brett2bikes .

Without any images &/or idea of what part of what country you live in , that's a tough question to answer (its' value) .

Maybe you could drop by a local shop or two (gun or antique) & ask around there .

Many folks use Ebay to sell such items , as well as your local 'craigslist' .

Good idea to take it to a gun shop...even rusty pieces that may look aged can be newer reproductions.

the reason i think its genuine is i found it in the roof eaves of an old house i'm renovating which dates back beyond the 1800s think it goes back to 1614, its even been tipped, which the soldiers used to do for more damage effect.(so i read)
saw one advertised on fleebay for over£600 but when i tried to put this on i recieved a snotty e-mail telling me they do not allow the sale of sharp weapons...

I would post your photo on this bayonet collectors forum. Networking with folks who collect these can be a good way to dial in the value and learn where to sell it.
