Is this tiny statue a keeper?
« on: September 19, 2011, 02:57:57 pm »
I honestly don't know if this is old or not. When I see a felt bottom it just makes me think that it cant be old. Is that right?
I think it is bronze? Don't laugh..I am still learning my metals. It is quite heavy for its size. It's just under 5 3/4 inches. Is it a keeper or destined for the lawn sale?

Thanks a bunch for any info!

I'm curious to know if your Venus de Milo item has got any 'hallmarks/makers marks' , etc  , snowflake .

fancy, can I hide now? That's twice now...
Venus de Milo. I didn't even clue in. I didn't notice any marks. Do you think it would be okay to tear off the felt and have a look?

Yeah , but perhaps use a razor blade for the felt removal ....

Hope you find something other than plaster , lead , concrete & etc. inside !

I would say that your venus figure is a reasonably modern one !! Check the hair against the original !! Looks like yours is different !!

It's hollow. I checked for marks and there doesn't seem to be any. Took a few more shots with better lighting.

Darn, what happened to my circle?   ???

My daughter upgraded me to Google Chrome, now nothing works like it used to.

At first glance, I did think that was a mark. Partial numbers rubbed away. But under a magnifier wasn't clear enough to make out anything. There are so many little scratches and little marks all over it. I just figured it was part of what detail they did. I want to get one of those jewelers loupes, maybe they will work better than a regular magnifier.

I agree with fancypants that i appears to be more modern especially with the hair style!

Does a magnet stick to it?

Thanks again, for all the help.

No, a magnet doesn't stick to it. I looked around the web last night and the hair seems way off. I didn't even realize what the statue was supposed to be when I put it up, or I would have looked into it. It lacks any detail in the hair too. The others have lines, mine is more smooth.

That being said, this can be added to the lawn sale pile?

The hair looks similar to the Gibson Girl hair styles !!
