Here's the seller's reply. Sounds like he didn't know, so I did not mention it in his feedback.

claire; I'm very sorry about the insulation,I don't use it very often and will not use again. thanks barry p.s. I hope you enjoy the hat box,I am almost seventy and its been in my family avery long time.

Awwww  :(  Thank goodness he said how sorry he is and that you sent a polite reply. I have such a soft spot in my heart for the older generation. They had different ways, he probably didn't think he was doing any harm by packing it in insulation. So glad it turned out on a positive note.

I asked him to tell me its history and asked who tha lady was who had owned it. I got the feeling that it belonged to someone special to him since it was kept in the family a long time.

Even if they make an error I always leave special words and excellent feedback for people like that !!  They try hard and just didn`t know !!
