Can anyone help tell me what these are?
« on: October 05, 2011, 09:02:20 pm »
Hi, I recently picked up some copper pots and kettles from a woman. One of the pieces we go we have no idea what it is. There looks like a matching lid, which doesn't fit. Maybe that was from another piece we never got. Any help would be appreciated.

Also, are copper pots better polished or left with the aged look. The pots we received are in pretty rough shape. They were left out in the rain and who knows what else. We just want to know if it would be a better investment to clean them up or leave as is. Thanks.

Escargot pans and egg pans look pretty darn similar... is there a difference?

I would also say its for escargot !! Copper that belongs in the kitchen is the one thing that I would say its better to clean !! The antique look is great but not with food on it !!

Don't agree...how many people would only have 3 escargot or 3 eggs and consider the actual cooking method that would center 3 items.

Most likely for design!

Cool little items , IMO .

I think that these are designed to be used on stove-top or in ovens , as 'double-boilers' (sitting on/in another pan) & for braising & C-food stews & such .
....Also looks like it would make a fine (large & round) loaf of rustic french bread !
The indentations serve as "stand-offs" , to keep the majority of the pans' bottom from direct heat contact .
That's my best thoughts on these pans .

My guess , in the event that these really don't bear any manf. marks , would be of French/European origin .

Nice rustic items , mmm7303 .

Considering the shape they're in , in my house I'd give 'em a hot soapy wash & warm dry , then a coat of mineral oil , rubbed & wiped well .

If you intend to use them , IMO , they should be 'deep-cleaned' & re-tinned , so as not to poison anyone !

Looks like this one !! Saw some that held different numbers so I would assume that would depend on if its an appetizer or main course !! Maybe those little boogers are too expensive to serve a bunch !!
