One ugly fake fruit apple?
« on: October 07, 2011, 06:23:47 pm »
I could not resist posting this. It one seriously ugly piece of fake fruit. From what I gather the G inside the wreath dates to being circa 1940's. Made in Japan. Haven't been able to find out what company it is. Maybe they are too embarrassed?  ;) The leaves are wired velvet/velour? I want to pitch it, hubby thinks it's neat. Has anyone seen something like this before? I think it's hollow, light weight. Not sure what it is made of. Some type of hard plastic? About 3 1/2 inches high and the same wide.

Thanks!

What's the apple itself made of? It has Halloween spirit!

Its kind of worn but it says Japan below that wreath with the G in it !! It could be vintage Papier Mache` !!  I rather like it !! Wouldn`t have to worry that everyone had the same one you have !! And some do collect a few pieces !!

haha! It is scary enough for Halloween, greenacres!

Yes, it does say Japan. Where the mark is, it is a strip of paper. Think I should peel it up and see if I can get a look at what it is made of?

I'm pretty sure no one I know has one, mart! LOL! It's a safe bet, or they have theirs hidden away too!

I believe your ugly apple  ;D was sold from a company  called Gift Craft a Toronto based Canadian company established in the 1940s that Imported and sold  gift wares from all over the world. Early products seems to be mostly Japanese ,the mark on your apple was used by a Japanese company after WW II and through to the 1950's. Not a lot is known about the company .

I have heard of gift craft! They are usually cheap gifts in low end stores. Thanks, Wendy!

I'll leave it out for the holidays and see if  I can sneak it away while hubby isn't looking.  ;)

Put it on a small pedestal and call it an art piece !! Which you know,,doesn`t have to look necessarily good or make sense as a fruit !! But people have them anyway !!

I know what you mean. I keep wanting to be able to do that too. I guess we'll have to do it manually like this:

*Like Button* and *Dislike Button* or better yet, like this:
