First Post..Really Need Help Identifying This Item..
« on: November 22, 2011, 02:13:49 am »
Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to view this item any help or ideas would be much appreciated. I have spent a considerable amount of time trying to figure out what this item is and have come up short. Obviously the picture is not showing item fully.

If you can shed any information, or best guess, of what it might be. I would really be great full. Thank you.

Sorry had to remove picture!

If you back far enough away from it you should have no problem !! Then use your zoom to get as close as possible and still keep the entire item in the pic !! A verbal description as well would help !! Just describe what you see looking at it !! Your current pic looks similar to the front of a toy car !!

Looks like the 'under' side of a semi-common kitchen appliance ;

Ok, there's gotta be more to this story. Do you actually own this item yourself or did you see it online? If you own it yourself, how come more pictures can't be taken of it? I'm totally lost but I want to give you the benefit of the doubt. Please explain! ;)

Hi,

Thank you all for the responses. Yes there is more to story. It's a contest and you have to figure out what the item is.  There are 4 and I have found 3 of them. This item I can not figure out. I have spent about. 12 hours trying to find it.

Any guesses, or insight would be much apreciated. Hell even if you know what the item is, just drop a hint. I'm not scared to do my own homework. I do know that is at vintage to antique. That's all the info they give.  Thanks again to you all. Wish you and your family a HAPPY THANKSGIVING.

LOL OK that 'splains it! I'll take a wild guess that it's a blender.

That explains it! I was going to agree with tales about it being a blender, those handheld electric types. But I don't know, it looks like brass or something towards the right hand side of the picture and I can't figure out what part of a blender it could be. Hmmmm

All right, let's analyze this logically.

For one thing, the color is off -- this is not a modern appliance at all!  It's that almond from the 70s thru early 90s.

It has a huge vent system, so it must be a very high powered appliance.  Blender would work.  Hair dryer, too.  What other appliances are high powered and require such an extensive venting system.

The key must lie in that knob/lever thingie at lower right.  If the item in its proper position/orientation, then one presses down on that thing.  For what purpose?

If the item is not in the proper orientation, then what is the proper orientation?  if the vent and cord become the base, then the knob is near the top, but on the side.  For what purpose?

If it's a handheld device, one wouldn't hold it near the vent -- one would hold it at the other end (which seems unlikely as there's no logical handle there), or there would be a handle underneath it, or one off toward the bottom frame of the picture.  How would this item then look?

I'm leaning toward an old electric can opener, or something along those lines.

I don`t know but remember the table top hair dryers that had a hose and sat on the table !! They had quite a vent system and the knob for Hi, Med, or Low !!
