a couple old Smith and Miller toy trucks
« on: December 18, 2011, 08:14:07 pm »
Me again!! Dug out my old toy trucks today, marked Smith and Miller/ Smitty Toys on the bottom. think theyre from the 50's. I found the red Mobile Oil one online no problem, apparently its quite a collectors piece (even in the condition its in) ;D but I cant find flatbed anywhere so Id love some help determining its value. How much does the magic marker on the side of the blue truck hurt the value and is there anyway to take it off without damaging the paint? I havent tried anything yet because I didnt want to wreck it. Thanks!

The blue GMC looks like it has a Fruehauf trailer that is missing the curved aluminum shield for the front and sides. For the magic marker door decoration, you could try some hair spray and a cotton swab.

Great suggestion Rauville, have used that trick many times before!

Josh any numbers on the truck & trailer if so I can help with value, I dont think the trailer is missing any curved aluminum shields for the front and sides. I think it is along the lines of this one

Rauville- thanks for the tip, Il give it a try!

Wendy- The numbers are the same as the link you posted, I think you found it! The only difference is mine still has they original wood, but Im wondering if the cab was repainted blue? I cant see the Smith Miller logo on the door like on they other one but we'll see what happens when I clean it up. Looking forward to seein what its worth, thanks all!

Sorry Josh I have hit a dead end my literature has recorded model numbers starting at 209 and up  no No. 109. Try your local library or book stores & see if you can find collecting toys by Richard O'Brien I have edition No. 8   later editions may have more info on Smitty toys. These identification & value guides can be hard to come by but worth it if you spot them!!!

Josh, if it can wait a few weeks, I know a guy who restores, buys and sells old toy vehicles. He's been doing this for a long time and could know about yours. I'm having both sides of the family for Christmas this year and just really busy this week.

He lives beside a friend of mine, but doesn't use computers. I'll print it out and pop over after the holidays. He travels all over the world and is seriously into this, so I'm sure he will know.
