P.J. MENE bronze question
« on: December 22, 2011, 10:31:01 pm »
Just wondering if anyone can tell me the ins and outs on this piece...  would be cost effective to have appraised, what do you think it's worth?

Pierre Jules Mene (French 1810-1879) cast bronze figural group "Fauconnier Arabe a Cheval", signed P J Mene,  approximate measures 29.5" x 26" x 10"

Thanks

Many 'copies' or 'after-copies' of this bronze Arab Falconer on Horseback have been produced , through the years .

I'd first suggest looking for (on the lower base) an impressed " F Barbedienne " .

I was unable to see the signature of P.J. Mene in the images of your item (the impressed P.J.Mene is not 'classified' as a signature , BTW) , so now I'm fishing for more info .

A genuine (not saying that yours is not , just yet) Mene bronze of the same subject was sold on July 9 , 2009 , at auction , for a little over ($16,000 USD) .
" Methinks me the 'mental' in sentimental .... "

Fancypants is right !! Without a signature it is likely a copy and not necessarily bronze either !!
