Sweet antique iron score!

Greetings all!  Been a month or so since I dropped in.....Christmas holiday had me super busy.  I went to a local auction in town last evening & scored a couple sweet old brass irons!  Got the 2 of them for $32 total.

I also won a great Tiger Oak dresser.  Picking that up this morning.  I'll get some pics asap!

The irons look Dutch(?) to me. What was the heat source, charcoal?

Nice score! Coals were put into these types of irons. I have one of the flat sad irons that you heated up by setting it on top of coals. I use it as a bookend now to hold my cookbooks.

I finally got over to the auction house earlier today to pick up the dresser.  Looked ALL over for any kind of make or date...nada    But, anywho...here it is!

I cannot believe it still has all the original knobs!

That's a nice appearing Empire style high boy chest. I'm sure originally it had a mirror. Those small upper drawers makes it somewhat unusual. Someone spent considerable time with the refinishing, as it looks like it had a coat of paint on it.

Thanks Rauville!  I took a good look at the back & didn't see where a mirror may have been attached...but if it did have one at one time, it's long gone now.  Boo.

I'm ok with that tho.  Still seems like a great buy at $75.

The irons sure do look to be in great shape.  Is there any wear on them?  They have made repros of these from original molds over the years.  Look to see if yours has any wear n tear.

Yes....the bottoms have some scratches & divots in them.  There's also a bit of oxidation to the copper inside.  Not seeing any makers marks tho. 

I'll take some pics of the bottoms & insides too.

Are there any signs of burning/searing on the insides from coals?

Agree nice high boy!  Many did not have mirrors.  Some had them attached from the back and some had them attached at the top.

Had a look at the Irons and there's indead many reproductions made here in the Netherlands . And the look seen from the pictures even with some oxidation and other small dents a bit to new . The older ones are mostly more battered including the handles . But there still nice to have and mostly made around the seventies when copper items like this where in the fashion .
