I must be tired cause I'm still trying to figure out the wording in relation to dates.........do they mean Ulster came before/after Irish??

This is a medium sized Royal Ulster Constabulary button which was designed in 1923 but replaced by 1924 in favour of a design identical in all repsects to the old RIC buttons except the word “Irish” was changed for “Ulster”
Maker marked on reverse “J.R. Gaunt & Son Ltd. London. This button is in lovely conditions.

You might want to contact the site I took the above info from ( Irish Historical Militaria) to see if they could help narrow down a date for you.
