POP QUIZ!
« on: February 14, 2012, 06:51:22 pm »
I just thought it would be interesting to see if people would know what this item is. My Grandfather gave it too me, it was his fathers, and he told me to use this to remind me to finish school when things got tough. It was one of many great lessons from a very wise man! :-)

It looks like a line guide for a sail boat or something along those lines. Or maybe part of an outrigger or down rigger for fishing. I would not get the school connection though

Since I have a sausage sampling knife with the Cozzini name, I'll guess it has something to do with the meat processing industry???

I am guessing it is a type of hide puller. For instance when skinning an animal they would insert the hide into the jaws to pull with instead of having to handle the hide itself :-\lf.

Looks like something I once used many, many years, decades ago for mountain climbing or cliff/rock climbing but an older version of one.

Soooo..........My great grandfather came to my town from Greece and worked in.....a tannery! This was one of his tools, he never really learned english or tried to advance himself from what my grandfather told me. My grandfather was born and raised in the house next to mine( my house is on former goat pasture)worked hard and after the marine corp ended up getting an MBA at Harvard! So he always told all of his grandchildren how important it was to always keep learning. To make a long and complicated story short(er)...he gave me this tool, used to stretch hide, and said "go to college so you don't have to use one of these for the rest of your life"  :)

Hope you all had fun guessing, and hearing a little story!
ricer....you take the prize for the correct guess...if I knew how to give out karma I would give you one!

Thank You! Thank You! All joking aside I had seen something very similar at a slaughterhouse auction in my area a few years back.

Bowtieguy,, to give a karma point just look below your name where it says applaud, when you click on applaud it gives one karma point to that post !! I clicked on a karma point for your post on your father and grandfather and his reasons for giving you the tool !!
Also gave ricer a karma point for getting it right !! I would not have guessed the answer !! I learned something here !!
