Davis Cabinet Company Desk Questions...
« on: March 04, 2012, 01:36:14 pm »
Hello,

I have a Davis Cabinet Company Desk and I am hoping someone can help answer a few questions.

1) What is the age of the Desk?

2) What is the value of the Desk?

We researched online and from what we found the date is stamped on the inside of the desk. We pulled all of the drawers out and could not find a date stamp. This piece has been hidden in office of the family for a long time. I was told that it was my great grandmothers but I can't say for sure. I would like to find this desk a home with someone who will appreciate the piece. Any suggestions on how to sell it?

I have included links to the pictures of the desk below (I am new to forums and could not get the images to load);

Thank you for taking the time to help me with this piece of furniture.

As I am certain you know they are still in business since 1929. I would suggest contacting them. They will charge for an appraisal but not for dating.  20th Century knee hole desks generally do not command high prices. The syling of this one is nice with the carved looking pulls that are reminiscent of earlier Victorian Renaissance pieces but is 70-80 years later than that.

Your desk looks like late 30`s or early 40`s with those bracket feet !! It was not something that was common to date furniture !! I have never seen a manufactured piece that was dated !! Unless the person that originally purchased it did
and that was rare !! Sometimes they put style numbers on the back but that only helps if you can get the company to go through old style books if they still exist !! Frogpatch is right about these not being an easy sell !!  They have no collector value and are just not what most people want today !!  It might bring $100. to $125. if in excellent condition !!
