Chinese Table Screen
« on: March 10, 2012, 02:56:12 am »
Old chinese table screen c 1900. Each piece of jade is individually carved. Found 1 like it going for $1,200.00. Given to me by my mom left to my mom by my grandma who was antique dealer from back east. Nine pieces of jade carved in the impression of Xi Shang Mei Shao (magpies on a plum branch) also meaning ( overflown with joy).

How lucky you are !! But just wondered why not have the screen as a whole appraised ??  This one was out of my league !!

Had to make sure the gems where right so I took it to a jeweler. I am taking it to a auction house out here tomorrow for a free appraisal on it as a whole. Jade or Jadeite/ nephrite is a very hard gem to identify due to serpentine, soap stone and all the rest, but I really had no worries due to the extensive research I did myself and "at home testing"

I hope it turns out well for you !! I hope whoever you are taking it to is not a small time appraiser !! You really need a well qualified person for this !! And I would suggest more than one appraisal !! Good luck and come back and tell us what they say !!

Didn't wake up on time to take it to the auction house:(...Oh well from what I've been told already from a trusted jeweler I am going to put it on ebay and see what happens I started it at 1,800.00. I am in no rush to sell it so we'll see.

If you started it at $1800. why did it only sell for $400. ???  First bid would have had to be $1800. if thats your start price !!  Confused here !!  Maybe they will not pay and you can keep it !! And don`t take anything but paypal on it and do not send it before you get the money !! Lot of people are paying with fake checks, money orders ect !!  Especially in this bad economy and reselling without paying !!

hey mart, no I had it listed for 1,800 it didn't sell so I put it back up with a reserve at 400.00 thinking it would shoot way past that. Oh well and she already paid and I already shipped it out.
