Unknown furniture
« on: April 29, 2012, 05:24:06 pm »
Hello,
I know absolutely nothing about old furniture and was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction regarding the picture of this piece. Thanks!
Here's a couple more pics...

Noarth, could you provide some close ups of construction methods (dovetails, back, underneath if possible) hardware and particularly those intriguing feet!

From the color of the wood I would say 50`s reproduction bureau,, has Chippendale style pulls but they are repros !! Is that laminate I see on top ??

Mart would be correct, 1950 era. Missing desk lid and slide out supports (beside top drawer). I'm sure there would have been a bookcase top originally.

Thanks guys,
I was leary to do anything to it in case it was a worthwhile piece but if it's not then I'll do some work to it and shine it up or restain.  I have some of the missing hardware but unfortunately the desk lid has always been missing. I just love the lines on the piece so fell in love with it anyways.

Agree with others.

Still a great looking piece!

In the first picture it shows that there is a bookcase ...it even has a few hidden type areas...scrollwork that pulls out to reveal a space.  Or did you mean another bookcase that sits on top of that top part also?  The entire bookcase part that you do see pulls out separately also.
