Lightening Rods and Balls
« on: May 21, 2012, 08:35:04 am »
I have from my dad's estate the lightening rods that have been on the home for well over 70-90 years. There were five and we managed to get four down, plus a part of a fifth one. One of the four copper rods has a partial break and is bent near the bottom. I have five balls with one of the balls with the glass cracked, but they are all intact. And I tell you this home has had a couple of extremely close lightening hits, so I guess they did the trick!

Anyway, I am seeing some really high prices for the balls and even the rods and I am not sure what they are worth.

In my opinion...
I always sold the rods w/ stands for around $20, but in reality I think they are worth about twice that.
Plain unmarked amber balls without endcaps should be worth around $40 each as well.

Thanks for the estimate Rauville. I set at 500 dollars after looking around Craigslist and Ebay. Listing just on Craigslist for now! Ebay kind of depresses me with it's fees, though things often sell better there.  ;)
