Bronze horse

I don't know whether this is a toy or not. I think it says F.S. My husband thinks it hand made. It might have been attached to something else. The two front feet and tail are hollow, not the back legs. What is it?

Those are from the late 40`s through early 60`s !!  Most are marked and are quite collectable !!

If it was attached to something, it was probably to a base beside an electric clock. The "horse clocks" are always popular with collectors.

Even without the clock? I'm going back to the house this weekend. I'll look. There were a lot of German toys in the house.

I had a heavy plastic one like this - same hollow values - as a little kid in the early 60's.  Very popular early 60's with popularity of shows like The Lone Ranger, GunSmoke, The Rifleman, Have Gun Will Travel, Bonanza, The Virginian, Wagon Train, Maverick, The Big Valley, etc.

Do the bottoms of the hooves look like they were affixed at some point?  This may have simply been what it is...a display item.

Yes, the front two for sure. I don't think I saw the clock part. I going back myself. My son has no patience, lol

Even the horse figurines that were freestanding are made like that !!  When they are molded at the foundry the are hollow to cool them !!  There are several freestanding ones on ebay !!  They were just decorative back then because like KC said,, westerns were going strong and thats how many people decorated !!

"Beautiful old horse figure. I think that it is bronze, it looks like bronze and is very heavy like bronze but I just can't say with 100% certainty that it is. Condition is very good with no chips, breaks, cracks, or repairs. It is marked on the inside of the leg Trophy Craft L.A.  It measures 13-1/4 inches long and 10-1/2 inches high and weighs more than 10 pounds. A very kind ebayer sent me a message stating that this horse is listed in a reference book called Metal Horse Figurines by Carolyn Martin on pg 130. It is on a wooden stand and has a value listed of $300."

The ones I've come across that were more 'carnival fare' were usually hollow bodied.

I remember a horse very similar to this that was part of an old wind up mantle in my father's old family home. It was there long before I was born nearly 60 years ago.

No kidding. Wait till I tell my husband. It will help me convince him to help get all the other things out. He brought me three wash ringers today. I'll put them up when I get home. The furniture will be the challenge!
