Very Old Hinged Bottle (Any Thoughts? Pics!
« on: June 05, 2012, 02:11:30 pm »
I've got an old small bottle I am looking at selling but am not sure how to describe it. I think it use to be for medicines or something. It is a heavy thick green glass with a gold hinged top. You push a button on the front and it springs open. Anyone know what kind of bottle this is or what it was used for? Would I list it under antiques or glass? Any advice would be appreciated. Many Thanks for looking!

Marc is that writing I see inside the cap? Could be a makers mark. I  have found some spring hinged perfume bottles online.

Yeah, it is. Duh! I should have listed that. I'm not thinking today.Very difficult to make it out. The letters go in a circle and I get cross eyed after a minute. The bottom reads London and there is a star in the middle. All I can make out are the letters Coom. There are a few more letters but I can't make them out. (sorry) Thanks again for reminding me of that!

This appears to be an English green perfume ( nice going mart!) bottle with a pinchbeck cap (copper and zinc alloy first developed in the 16th century by Christopher Pinchbeck, English watchmaker, as a substitute for gold). I would guess approx 1880s, Value $20.00 - $400.00 the writing inside the cap is key to value! get a good jewelers loop to read it and research the maker  :)

Thanks Wendy. Yeah, reading the small letters is not easy. Having it go around in a circle makes it more difficult (and makes me dizzy) Thanks again for the advice!
