Old Chair Help!

Hi everyone!

I have had this chair sitting around for a while, and decided it's about time I found out a little about it and it's value! Have had a look round the web but struggling to pinpoint the finer details, so any help would be very much appreciated!

Early 1900's (most likely 30's to 40's)....Can't tell much more by photos.
Are the casters cast iron or metal?

It looks like part of a 1900s parlor set. The leg is typical of the late 1800s and early 1900s. It almost looks like there may have been more wood to the back and it was covered over to add cushioning but I can't really see that well. I would also like to see the wood part of the arms.

Frogpatch, now that I am at my computer I can see it somewhat better.  Looks like has been reupholstered at some point and agree about the back that it looks "added" but would need a closeup.

It sits very low so that is reminiscent of late Victorian and early 1900's.  Just can't put my finger on it...almost feels more recent towards 1930's.

I think you are correct ,, 30`s or so !! Appears to be a transition piece and was probably part of a set !!  Has some elements late Victorian and of the Empire style with those legs and the design on center splat !!  Back doesn`t look altered to me !! Its what I would expect !!

Mart, I think it is the "pouf" or "stuffing" on the back that is appears larger - they weren't usually that thick - imagine it was done when reupholstering!

Look at the side rails of the back. They seem awkward in relation. I think it was just made poofier. I would really like a hands on exam of this. Something just does not look right. By the way did anyone see the 100,000.00 chair on Roadshow last night?

Unless the pic is throwing me off,, I think the chair may have had a footstool with it originally !!  Seat is abnormally long from front edge to arm !!

Nice marquetry on the splat. For some reason this hits me as aesthetic, so I'd date it as 1885-95 or so.
