"birthing chair?boot chair from spain?
« on: October 11, 2004, 04:51:52 am »
Hello, i have just come across an unusual piece of furntiure.  I am told it was used as a "birthing chair".  It was also supposedly used to help with putting on boots.  It is a three legged chair.  The base of the chair is a rectangular piece of wood with two cut outs of "clubs" (like the playing card) where you would hold on to.  The wood bends upward where the cut out are, making the seat area.  This piece of wood is narrow, There is one more piece of wood (same narrow size as the one just mentioned) for the back which also has a cut out of a club on the top of the wood.  You can sit on the stool with your back to the piece extending upward or reverse the stool and the back piece is resting on your stomach/chest area.    It has the word "spain" engraved into it.  It has some carvings in it, but nothing that is very detailed.   Any help with this item would be appreciated.  thanks margaret
