Here are a few other paintings by Duchamp being offered online , hopefully someone else can give you a more accurate appraisal. If you don't mind my asking, how did you acquire it?

Assuming it's genuine and well cared for it seems you have a very nice painting. Although, I would wait to see what the more knowledgeable folks on the site have to say too.

This artist worked well into his later years !! He died in 1968 !! Was into several styles during his life including cubism and modern sculpture !! Some of the works during his cubist period sell pretty high !! And the popularity of one style over another is what is going to determine the value of this piece !! Might help if you knew the title of this painting !!  Even the best artists have paintings that don`t bring as much as others do !!

The subject is St. Mark's Square in Venice....I see the Doge's Palace.

If this is really Marcel Duchamp, it is from close to the end of his career - 1950s-60s.

It is incredible to believe that this could be by THE Marcel Duchamp, the same guy who painted 'Nude Descending a Staircase' for the 1913 Armory show and 'The Bride Stripped Bare by her Bachelors Even.' He was perhaps the most revolutionary artist of the 20th century.

This painting is nice and all, and would sell especially well in today's retro mid-20th century market, but it seems so ordinary compared to his groundbeaking earlier work.

I came across these bits........

From Wikipedia........

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marcel_Duchamp

"He moved to Paris in 1919, and then back to the United States in 1920. Upon his return to Paris in 1923, Duchamp was, in essence, no longer a practicing artist although he did work on several projects towards his death. Instead, his main interest was now chess, which he studied for the rest of his life to the exclusion of most other activities."

.......which to me would suggest there would be few examples of his work post late 20's

A 12 x 10 oil on canvas, signed Duchamp (below) which bears similarities to the one you have posted......

http://www.ioffer.com/i/duchamp-oil-painting-signed-12-x-10-gold-framed-wood-487671868

Origin: USA
Age approx late 1950's - mid 1960's
Who owned the piece before ? A private person
This painting was not painted by Marcel Duchamp  ( Marcel Duchamp stopped painting in the late 1930's and basically only created art called Ready Made ) this artwork was painted by one of the brothers unfortunately which one of the brothers we simply have not been able to find out.

Following up on that last blurb.....

Regarding sculptor Raymond Duchamp Villon

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raymond_Duchamp-Villon

"Of the six Duchamp children, four would become successful artists. He was the brother of:

Jacques Villon (1875–1963), painter, printmaker
Marcel Duchamp (1887–1968), painter, sculptor and author
Suzanne Duchamp-Crotti (1889–1963), painter"

Edited to add.....Raymond being a sculptor, Jacques went by the surname of Villon and Suzanne from what I can find signed her work S. or Suzanne Duchamp.......which brings us back to Marcel (or another totally different Duchamp family)

Another piece that was sold for $60 listed on Live Auctioneers......

http://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/1500920

"DUCHAMP Oil on Canvas Painting Brooklyn Bridge" (but which Duchamp??)

Again, a similar style and signature although the signature looks rather unsteady.

Found the 'Brooklyn Bridge' listed again on Live Auctioneers, Lot passed. This listing states........

Condition report
no retouch; in good condition overall

There were bids up to $425, so I'm assuming there was a reserve.
