Dresser have tried posting twice
« on: July 14, 2012, 07:10:08 am »
I have tried to post this item twice - once last night and once this morning - and those posts seem to be lost in cyberspace - maybe the pics were too large so I am going to try posting two pics at a time.

This dresser has also been painted and is currently  a yellow color.  It is 5 drawers and measures 46" tall, 34" wide and 17" deep.

There is a sticker on the back that says "Franklin Soap Co., Buffalo, NY Inspection Seal."  Soap Co???  Wierd

That appears to be an oak dresser that some one has painted.

Originally it looked similar to this one.

Ok I goofed - it says Larkin Soap Co. Buffalo, NY Inspection Seal.

I might try my hand at stripping a few of these pieces.  I think the glass knobs are cool, but I could see how the brass ones would really add some style to this piece.

Good idea! Restore that puppy!

Interestingly enough, some of these modifications are themselves becoming "historic." My parents had a dresser modified in just this way back in the 1950s.

BTW, the Larkin Soap Co. building was one of Frank Lloyd Wright's most important commissions, and one of the worst examples of urban "renewal" ever. This gorgeous building was torn down many years ago.

Cogar's "before" picture was deleted, but I suspect that your dresser is early 20th century, maybe 19 teens or so.
