Great Grandma's bombay company 5 drawer chest
« on: July 14, 2012, 09:57:53 pm »
So my wife and I are having a "debate" over what the worth of this dresser is.  We got it from my grandma, who said it belonged to her mother.  (or her aunt?)

I say it's junk.. willing to take it to the dump... she thinks it could be worth something... antiques are NOT our style and we have a baby on the way.. need room!

It looks nice but the bombay plaque inside the top drawer doesn't look THAT old... it's missing the key for the drawers.

What do you think it would be worth?

Well now, you can dump it off at my house anytime you want to.

It looks like solid wood construction, at least. Far better than the vast majority of new furniture, and it will probably last your child's lifetime. NOT junk!

Thanks for the replies so far!  I did some searching and i think that company has only been around since the 70's, so it can't be that old.

But i think you guys are right, might be worth a couple hundred or something - it's built like a tank and i guess if it fits someone's decor, it could be a great item for them.

Can anyone tell what kind of wood it's made of?  That would be a great help for when we sell it.

Thanks!

Late 70`s psuedo French Provincial,,, I would have killed for that when my daughter was little !!  Have you considered painting it and using it for your nursery ??  Babies need a lot of stuff !! Might not work if a boy though !!

I think the wood grain is handsome. I'd give/sell it to someone who "respects the grain."  ;D
