Vintage Mickey and Minnie mouse toy
« on: July 15, 2012, 08:21:55 am »
Hi guys,
I've found this vintage mickey and Minnie mouse riding a motorbike cast toy.
I've not been able to find any details about it such as age and origin. I managed to find the same item on eBay.com, see below.
If anyone has any more info, can you let me know?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350579746047+&item=350579746047&lgeo=1&vectorid=229466

I've attached a pic of the item I'm looking to buy,

All the best,
Toby

1940s or so. Very cool. Make sure you're getting the real thing and not a reproduction!

Thanks for the reply, any chance you know how to tell if it's a reproduction? It seems to be the real deal.

I looked at the original listing and from what I could see with the zoom feature,, it looks consistant with the age !! I would say a very early one due to the longer noses on Mickey and Minnie !! Did you buy it ??

They're riding a Harley Davidson Knucklehead which was manufactured between 1936 and 1947. The longer noses of Mickey and Minnie would indicate (along with the bike model) sometime in the late 1930s-1940s are ghopper1924 said. If it's the one that I remember, I'm guessing that it's cast and the figurines come off.

Nice find.

Then that is a very cool toy indeed. I've seen them before, but not that often.

The original cast iron tends to be "smoother," while the colors tend towards an earthiness not seen with today's more vivid hues.

OK,, I am confused,, the ebay link you gave was sold at over $400. !! If the one you are looking at is different,, our opinions on its authenticity might not be the same !! You need to post a pic of the actual one you are looking at !!  There are very small details that might change our opinion on if its original or not !!  These have been reproduced !!

That $400 one is a different size than the more common $20-$50 ones out there I think. The seller of the one in the link was a little misleading with the Knucklehead thing too. It was modeled after that Harley, but it was not licensed by them.

I should have paid more attention !!  You just can`t go by a look-a-like item !!  Good thing is it isn`t much money !!

You would pay more attention if you were buying it. More power to the seller though.

I believe the attached photo is the one they're looking to buy and the link is one to compare it to. So hopefully it's still a good purchase.
