Hi, can anyone tell me anything about this piece please?

I was able to put the photo into photoshop and lighten it, it looks to be empire to me.

Oh thanks for going to that trouble! I just posted a few more pictures if that would help. I know it is a long shot, but is there any way of determining which country it is from? It has been in my family since at least the 20's that I know of, but I only recently became curious about it. Would you say that settee would be the correct term? I was really just guessing but it's what we've always called it

Setee or sofa,, either would be a correct term !! Although typically a setee would be smaller !!  Determining country might be difficult since most used the same or similar construction methods as we did !! I would say its probably American Empire revival since several of the companies used a similar design !! I don`t see anything that would make me think it was not made here just from the pics !!

No problem! It's a very nice piece and it looks to be in great shape!

Beautiful sofa! From the high arms I'd say Empire revival, possibly the first decade of the last century. I've got a settee with a high back and arms - not as nice as this sofa - made of mahogany ca. 1910.

So (for anyone paying attention to these posts) would the general consensus be that this is from the early 19th century? Or is there any way that it is from the 1800's?

What you are asking is if its a period piece or a revival piece which would be later !!  Would have to examine the construction and a few other things to determine that !! Kind of impossible with a pic !!
