Antique Tap and Die set?
« on: July 19, 2012, 01:27:19 pm »
Someone just gave me this and said they figured it was from the 1950's, but he wasn't sure.  He didn't know the brand, or the value.
Of course, neither do I.
I couldn't find anything on Google or eBay that looked quite like this.

Has anybody seen this before?  Any idea as to its value?  (click thumbs for full sized pictures)

Anxiously waiting.  I have a lot of very old tools, but this is the most unique one I own.

There are several out there for sale. They vary in price $70.-$125.00. These sets vary in types. I'm not familiar enough. I'll have to check with the hubby later.

If you are selling the set, don't call it a "tap and die set" which would be used for cutting threads. This would be a "steel letter and number die stamp set". I'm guessing the value on an unmarked set such as this might fall in the $40 to $80 range.

I have no clue what I'm doing with it yet.  I'll probably just put it on eBay with a start of $20.  I don't really have the room (or interest in this particular piece).
Thanks for that advice!!
