How would you know ......
« on: July 22, 2012, 03:31:06 pm »
I have a lot of glass I inherited. My mom has one green piece which I question is Dorfinger. I have many pieces. I'm curious about the one. I'll post it soon. I want to know the charcteristics of Dorfinger and how you would know?

Thanks KC, I just got the Kovels newsletter and a piece sold at auction for a lot of money, so I'm curious.

I was just reading about Dorfinger glass and the funniest thing just happen. Several years ago my husband I went to "Antque Roadshow", and I brought this item because I didn't know what it was. Well I just found it under Dorfinger. http://www.cutglass.org/examples1/fig184.htm  They explained what it was and said it was worth a hundred dollars. I wonder if they knew it was Dorfinger? Sorry about the back drop. ;D

I've been studying American Cut Glass, lol This is European cut glass. The color pieces anyway. I have posted these before, but we never discussed names. I thought one was German, but the other two I wasn't sure.

Thank you, I got it many years ago in a lot of things. For years I didn't know what it was. To me it looked like a funny light bulb. ;D I've always found it interesting. I wonder if the glass was blown like that because there is no seam.

It would have been hand blown most likely !! Still can`t tell much about detail, can you leave it where it is and just hold a white piece of paper behind it and snap a pic ?? Being clear its hard to see without a contrasting background !!

I'll post them tonight after my son leaves. He's coming for dinner.  ;D I posted this to the "ACGA". American Cut Glass Assoc. They've been very educational. They also liked it. They wanted to know if "Antique Roadshow" gave me an age. All I remember was they used the term antique. so I'm assuming it's at least 100 yrs. old.
