On reading your description I was thinking “salesman sample” but the pictures prove it was built “to use” ….. given the size of the flew pipe and damper.

Thus I believe it was built especially to be used as a “portable” camping stove or camp heating stove.

Nice find, I’ve never seen one similar to it.

In this part of the country I'd probably call that a "fish house stove", used to heat a fish shack during ice fishing season.

Could this have been used on a train or at one mining camps?

"Outside the small town of Allison in far southwestern North Carolina gold was discovered in the 1930's. Now the Nantahala Midland ran from Tellico Gap N.C. to White Oak N.C. passing thru Allison along the way. The 1930's being hard times the NM wasn't interested in footing the entire cost of extending tracks to the site of the mine. So local business people in Allison knowing what the desperately needed jobs could do for the local economy raised some capital and joined forces with the NM to form the Nantahala Mining & Transportation Company. The purpose of the NM&TC was to haul supplies to the mine, haul the ore out and ferry the miners to work and back. "

"The N-Scale Nantahala Mining & Transportation Co. is a very short line (the shorter the R.R. the longer the name   ) in southern Appalacia.
It was built to ferry miners and supplies from the town of Allison N.C. to the NM&T gold mine 7 miles up in the mountains. The terrain is so rugged that roads for vechicles will never be built so miners have to use the R.R. to get to and from work. The R.R. is also the only way to get supplies in and the ore out. At the town of Allison the NM&TCo. interchanges with it's parent R.R. the Nantahala Midland which in turn interchanges with the L&N and the Southern at Tellico Gap N.C

I think we are talking about two different companies here. I can't imagine that a North Carolina mining company would be manufacturing stoves in Buffalo, New York.

(I seem to recall some metal fabricating machinery years ago that went under the trade name: "Niagara", made by the Niagara Machine and Tool Company. Who knows, maybe they made stoves as a sideline?)

Thank you everyone!!! That sheds a lot more light on it!! It's been up here in kenai, Alaska for about 40 years, the guy I bought it from used it for his small cabin and outhouse. If there is any additional info please let me know! Thank you everyone so much for your answers!!!
