Hard to say about value, since so many of these patterns were used for decades on end. I've seen buildings in New York with wrought iron like this that date to the 1840s, and there's a house down the street from me here in Missouri with wrought iron porch supports similar to this that dates to the 1940s. Wrought iron was big from the mid 20th century years.
However, presuming that yours is antique (100+ years old) and not just vintage, then you traded well. The problem is that so much wrought iron was made for specific applications that it is difficult to just transfer it to another one, i.e. a different house, because it has to be altered to fit it's new use.
So I'd be happy with your trade and call it good. If you're trying to sell the wrought iron, I'd check out e-bay for comparables; it's hard to put a dollar value on it unless you're selling it by the pound for scrap. The work is pretty enough that I'd hate to see that!
