Hello,

I am new to this board ;D

I came across 2 older hats in my grandmothers home and she gave them to me as a gift. I was wondering if anyone knows if they are antique , or have monetary value.

The first hat has a label that reads:

Dorthy-Marie 6843 Belmont

The 2nd hat has a label that reads:

Replica de Parisienne

I have tried searching the net.. but have come up with nothing on these hats.

Any help would be Great!!

Both of these look similar to 1920`s style hats !! Top one would have been worn with the tassel to the side, bottom similarly worn !! Bottom would be a copy of a paris style hat, top possibly by a local milliner !!

Where would you suggest that I go and get them appraised at?

Wait and get a few more opinions from our members !! Much depends on what the material is and even though they are in that style,, it does not mean thats when they were made !! You should ask your grandmother about their age & where she got them !!

My grandmother is 98 years old and on a good day can remember who I am.  :-[  She doesn't remember anything about the hats unfortunately. She also gave my father a picture of her Great Grandmother in a very old large frame- it is just awesome! She has several older items that were in her home.. so I wouldn't be surprised if the hats were in the 1920's.

I was going to say that the hat with the bill/tassles looks newer, almost like something from the 60s. Not that I'm an expert.

My wife has purchased a couple of hats from the 30s for about $15.00-$20.00 each.

I thought the same thing about the material but since I can`t see and feel to tell what it is I will stay with 20`s for now !! Appraising would cost more than the hats are worth !! $20. to $30. each at best !!

I agree with the values indicated above.  It isn't worth you spending your money to get them appraised -  the appraisal would cost more than the monetary worth.  BUT the sentimental worth to you, I am sure, is priceless!

The 2nd hat is done in the Cloche Hat style of 1920's.  But all I could find in my books/references if that Replica De Parisienne was associated with the New York Creation group in 1940's.
