Its Copper on the outside and silver in the inside, its 8" round and the handle is 33" long, Cast iron and very heavy

If it is a really old pan - they typically had long handles if they were used for bed warmers.

Something tells me it is not a copper pot !! I think its brass with tinned lining !! No matter which, can`t tell from the pics for sure but either way it is most likely made in France !! Very heavy construction !!

I don't believe it is copper either...but I do believe the rivets are copper. Tin lined brass!

Don`t know about bed warmer with cast iron handle !!  Usually they would be light enough for a woman to handle !! This would be heavy and what would be the use of a tinned lining ?? Those are only done for cooking pots and kind of expensive to do !!

But wouldn't a woman have been handling a cooking pot as well?

Agree about the wood handle, though.

Maybe it's an "industrial" bed warmer, for use by the help in an old hotel!  ;D Kidding...

I thought it could be a bed warmer, I have posted another picture, you can see the angle, and the handle is so heavy you would have to
prop it up to use it to cook.
Thanks for looking I love to come and see what you have come up with, I cant find anything on line about it.

I agree about the construction methods mart and their general uses.  Just you don't usually see that length of handle for cooking.  The fireplaces were generally close enough for cooking and the average oven would use the pan closer to the door.

Maybe it was constructed for some other application that we just don't know about...but obviously for heat...and obviously was needed long enough either for the fire or use!

Mart that last pic looks more like copper that has been cleaned with something that clouded it.  (Have seen that before!)

Possible KC,, Hard to tell !! From the angle almost looks like one would have to be standing to use it !!  Indian curry of some sort ???  Couldnt use it sitting !!

I've never seen it done, but I could visualize something similar to this being used as a dipper when applying heated pine pitch during the sealing of a wooden sailing ship deck.

Here's what is bugging me about this pan....It is made in the manner of cookware.  The handle is so long that if it did have food in it and you let go of the handle....it would tip!  It is long enough to stand with.  It is made with sloped sides (thus pan) and not straight up (thus scoop).

Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh h

Does it have any wear marks like it has had a top used on it or something set in it?

It looks to me like a "new" piece someone made just "for the fun of it".

There is no sign of "galvanic" corrosion at all around the rivet heads in the 2nd picture.
