Identify Mid-Century Art Plates Origin and Artist?
« on: August 09, 2012, 06:20:36 pm »
I purchased these 2 Vintage art plates from the thrift store a few months back and have not been able to find any others like them.

They are both ceramic, porcelain I think, and are hand painted then some other type of gold colored acrylic paste was added that I'm not sure of it's contents or what it is called.

Both the plates are about 9 inches in diameter. I'm going to guess mid-century 1900's chinese or japanese but I'm not sure.

There is a signature that I can't make out but perhaps someone else can recognize it.

My questions are where they came from in asia, who the artist is and from what time period?

Thanks!
Kevin

They're intended to look Japanese. I'd date them newer than mid 20th century.

Mor than likely 1980`s vintage,, couldn`t find anything on a decorator R. Waite which is what the name looks like !!  There was a surge in oriental decorating during that time !! I know,,, I did my bedroom in oriental decor then !!  There were many items like these plates on the market !!
