Glass decanter
« on: August 12, 2012, 06:34:24 pm »
Last one for tonight   ;D

I found this decanter - not sure how old it could be or if it has any age at all.

Only marking on glass says "Federal Law forbids sale or re use of this bottle"  I have never seen this on a bottle so it peaked my curiousity.  I also can't get the cork out but the glass top screws into the cork - just pretty stripped.

Any help on this, as always, greatly appreciated!!!

Anything on bottom ??  Lots of these were made from 40`s through 60`s by almost every distillery in operation !!  Jim Beam bottles are probably the best known but others had their own styles as well !!  I have had a lot of different style bottles with that same screw in top !!  From that swirl pattern yours may be late 40`s or 50`s !!

Wow was so busy today I didn't take  a pic of the bottom and can't take any right now - already dark  LOL nor did I actually check the bottom - wow - brain freeze I guess,  but this is what it says:

Old Mr. Boston Brand
Pat App For
1D1
12A51
Fine Liquor

Glad you asked   8)

Measures 10 1/2" high and about 4" diameter at widest point

Guess I gave myself something to research - oh boy  LOL

I knew there was a date range for "Federal Law forbids sale or reuse of this bottle" but couldn't remember - just just did a search and found this -
"If your bottle has these words embossed it was made between 1932 - 1964 These words were required on liquor bottles after prohibition was lifted."

I thought that seemed too high actually - listed mine at $24.99 and I think that might even be a little too high but we'll see   ;D

I would bundle it, add a four shot glasses and ask for $28, I think that it appeals more as a gift item that way, ppl have an easier time spending money on others than they do themselves... just my opinion...
