Grandma's unusual 3 Handled Vase
« on: August 14, 2012, 02:59:20 pm »
Hello Every one, my first post on behalf on my Grandma!

I'm getting know where with this vase, in fact i don't know where to start. My Grandma tells me its at least 90 years old as she can remember it as a small child. A few years ago she was told it was by Christopher Dresser, tho I'm unsure of this. The marking doesn't match any of his works!! That is just my guess, i might be wrong.

So...my questions is can any one help me out with a date, maker, style and weather or is worth anything. I actually really like the vase, it looks unusual and in my eyes stylish. What do you all think, do you like?

Many Thanks

Giles

That is a very unusual piece and definitely worth putting in some time investigating. Those types of marks are difficult to identify because they are not describable as a form like a star or bell. To me I think it is a very good piece of art pottery. Probably from the twenties or thirties. I am not an expert but I have a very good gut feeling about this one.

Agree frogpatch looks to be a wonderful piece and my gut says it will hold some value.   I spent some time researching the mark and have come up empty!  Hopefully someone will figure it out, I have a few books I will pull and check tonight.

I bombed out too on this mark !! Oldandsold.com has an extensive collection of marks but would take me a week to go through it

What does the inside of the pot look like?  I am thinking it is a bean pot!

It’s just plain inside the pot same colour as the base! There are a few ripples towards the bottom from what i think the potters hands may have made. Yea same shape as a bean pot. I can’t find any decorated like this one, and not so many with 3 handles!!

Thanks
