Antique ivory carving

Hi all,

My latest purchase at a car boot sale is this Ivory carving(which i think is very old) for a bargain price of £5. Any info from somebody a little more informed is appreciated.

Hi,

Its 2.5 inches long and 1.7 inches wide with a depth of .40 cm

May I recommend that you read this article and do the pin test described on here and let us know what you find out!

Your system must be different, can`t enlarge either one !! But looking at the back, I see only straight grain, is that correct !!

Then its likely bone rather than ivory !! Ivory has crosshatching in the grain, Bone is straight grained !! You should be able to see tiny colorations in it kind of red or rust colored !!
