Another drying rack - possible help with dating?
« on: August 25, 2012, 08:02:40 pm »
Hello again,

I lucked out today and found another antique/vintage clothes drying rack at a rummage sale for $2.  This one is a little different as it hangs horizontally and all but one of the others I have been able to find hang vertically.  I am wondering if anyone can tell by the construction, how old it might possibly be - or at least a range.

This one is not marked in any way and the "arms" are held together with dowels.  The screws are very old looking and flat headed.  Not sure that is any help.

While I was taking pictures I only took one of the side that shows the dowels and it is a little blurry but I will post it anyway.

Thanks for any possible info on age.

Please bear with me as I post another pic here that is downsized a little more.  When I post pictures here or on ebay I always resize to 75% of my original pic.  In viewing them here I see they are blurry when enlarged so I am trying to see if resizing them a little more makes a difference.

Ok my pics still look blurry to me but are so clear when I post.  Hmmmmm  In any case I should say the dowel allows the arms to swing outward and the screws look very old.  Not sure there is enough in the construction of this to date but trying to decide whether to post as vintage or antique.

Hi Mart - the last picture is with all of the arms open and extended.  I can try to re-size it again if that would help.

The arms all fold into the center where they sit nicely stored away.  The ends of each arm are - ok don't know the word for this either - but kind of "dimpled" to make it easier to pull each arm out.

I have never seen one like that.

If “wall space” was limited then it would have been a better choice.

That one could be mounted over top of a base cabinet or on either the top or bottom of a window sill.

A neat find.

Hi Cogar,  Me either and I posted it as unique.  When I googled some images I did find one that looked almost the same - horizontal but the picture didn't lead me anywhere   :-\

My wife found one of those once. I think we sold it on Ebay. They are good for hanging home made ribbon noodles like fettuccine or papardelle.
