Vintage yard sale find.

Made a quick stop at a yard sale on my way to work yesterday morning and immediately fell in love with this little pair.  The lady pointed out that they were 'oil paintings' but it was quite easy to tell (even for me) that they weren't. 

I've found info on the artist, Joseph Edward Hennah (1896 -1963) who resided in Newport and Weymouth, UK and thanks to a site that has spent some time researching him, have seen some nice examples of his work, both oil and watercolor.

Based on the above info and some bits and pieces I've found elsewhere, plus the look of the frame, etc. I'm guessing they are 1940's time period.  Just wondering if I'm in the ballpark here. So any help with dating is appreciated.

I should mention, after taking it apart......the mat is firmly attached to the print. No other identifying marks or labels either on the backing nor the mat.

Hubby commenting that ever since I've joined this forum I've 'dissected' more things that he cares to count.

This little nail/pin..is a handmade one...which would date the framing older than 1940,s....and as you are so good at dissecting....any tips on filleting a fresh caught salmon, would be much appreciated....

And that would be Atlantic salmon too, darn you.  That's just totally cruel

The biggest Salmon ever caught by Rod,was on the River Tay..in 1922...and it was caught by a Woman...a Miss Georgina Ballantine..the fish weighed in at 64lbs...this fish is still regarded as the official record here in the UK,see link

thats a framing pin and is made of a light weight metal like tin !!  there are several different types of those !! its like a push pin !!  the pic doesn`t look like paper,, can you tell us what it looks like to you ??

I might even date it to the 1950s. No idea on value. I inherited a beautiful watercolor landscape from my great grandma, dated 1902, and if it's worth $100 I'd be considered lucky.

mart, if you check the second set of pictures I posted "a bit more detail'.......the first one shows the texture of the 'paper' through a loupe (thank you fancypants/regularjoe   )and at macro setting.  You can see it with the naked eye, but it doesn't show up as well in shots. To me, it resembles linen.

Here's another shot showing the artist's signature where you can also get an idea of the texture.

The prints are on the smallish side. 3.75" x 8" not including mat.

I'd say that they came from Haigh & Sons Ltd , South Hall , Middx(or Haigh & Sons , Glouchester) , in the era of late 1920's to late 1930's .

They look as if they may be stone lithos , with a retail value around $59 USD each .... possibly printed on linen or silk , IMO (without really 'seeing' them) .
If you do a search using the terms : "Normill print serial" , you'll turn up with many examples of work from that company .

Then there's the story of old McDougal , whose wife had given birth at home .... lacking a baby scale , McDougal used his salmon scale to weigh the newborn , who came in @ 34 pounds , 12 ounces .

And where can I get me one of them scales?? Better yet, where can I get me a 34 lb salmon? I could do some serious damage to that critter

I thunk the current record for heavy salmon in my state (Washington) is from 1964 , caught in the Pacific Ocean off Sekiu by Chet Gausta , coming in @ 70lb 8oz.

Up in Alaska the biggie was 97lb 4oz , caught in the Kenai River by Lester Anderson in 1985 .

Largest I've landed was a King (Chinook) @ 36lb 8oz , in Puget Sound in 1992 , caught on very light tackle (my personal favorite) using a 1 inch silver 'Buzz-Bomb" lure & 8lb test line , from the shoreline off of Alki beach .
It took better than an hour to get it into the net .
