I find it mildly amusing that as technologically advanced as the world is today, when nature decides to dictate conditions, it's us 'older generation' who are often able to cope much better.
My first thoughts today were to pick up more lamp oil, grab more rechargeable batteries and long burning candles, dig out the old quilts, dust off the camp stove and round up my old aluminum pots. Water run will be tomorrow.........pa
ntry is already well stocked. This weekend I'll have to drag the chain saw out of the shed and get at all the alders that have sprung up along the drive and stow away deck furniture.
I don't have a Blackberry or iPod grafted to the palm of my hand, so outages won't be any bother. As long as we're well stocked I won't have to don my backpack and make any more three mile treks through the woods and down the highway on foot to get supplies.
The last time we were trapped in here (for ten days) my youngest accompanied me through three foot drifts and burying by snowplow to get to a store that had power. Once we stocked up she apologized and headed out to hitchhike to the 'camp' where a woodstove supplied much missed heat and she hoped to be 'reconnected' to the rest of the world.
