Oberammergau CDV
« on: September 16, 2012, 10:54:00 am »
I collect Oberammergau items,I just bought 4" by 2 1/2" CDV's of the 1870-71 Passion Play with an embossed stamp on the photo that is Gemeinde Oberammergau.gemein de in german means community, municipality or parish according to my dictionary. My question is were these sold at Oberammergau and are they from the 1870's or are they newer?

These were most likely sold at the Oberammergau Passion Play which as you know is held every ten years...Avril and I holiday in Germany quite often and we usually stay with friends in Amberg...and in Garmisch-Partenkirchen....which is very near to the village of Oberammergau...and we visited the village in 2006...and we saw many religious icons for sale...some of which looked quite old....but they could have been made the day before....
I make no excuses,and no apologies....but i like a good Malt,

It is written on the cover "in the 1930 book" however, I cannot find this from 1930.  However, you must consider that even then it was such a big presentation that all who could produce and sell memorabilia...did!

My parents went to the most recent play - amazing as always!
