Any idea about when these jar were in use/made?  I love that they say "Canadian Jewel" on them.  (I get to let my Canadian heritage out, eh?)

Thanks, BigWull!  I am so flattered that you think I am so young I didn't know about canning jars (tee-hee!).  I am well beyond that!  As a matter of fact the last time I did any canning, my husband and I made some Brandied cherries!  He loves them on top of home-made vanilla ice-cream!

I just was wondering when they made the glass tops.  I have only seen the ugly little metal type tops in which the seal is part of the metal.

It takes other peoples minds off the fact that we either have real sh***y grammar or we were being a bit off color, eh?  The 'eh' baffles them   and they don't notice our other flaws.

New words. . . if you only knew.  When I was in kindergarten, my teacher would correct my pronunciation of words such as been and again.  I would go home and my mother would correct my pronunciation of the same words.  I think it took me about 4 months of school before I had a kindergarten meltdown because of the confusion.  My father (a Texan) came into the kitchen and was trying to figure out why I was crying.  When I explained it to both of them, my father explained to my mother that here in the states, we didn't speak "the King's English."  I still smile about that!

Just be glad she wasn't from PEI and pronounced potatoes (sorry, Canadian spelling) as pudadoes!  Hell, mix that in with a dash of Cape Bretoner (Gaelic and 'english') and my dad's back country Noel Roader (don't ask).  Sighhhhhhhhh!

A Maritimer can go anywhere in Canada and they know where you came from........all the rest of 'em sound 'normal'

Mom (or should I say Mum) was from the Ottawa Valley, where they are known to have a Scottish-type brogue.  Apparently, the area was settled by the Laird of McNab and he left not only children but the accent as well.

All I know, is that every time I hear a Canadian accent - I smile!  Definitely brings back VERY fond memories!

Newfoundlanders are the most fun to listen to, or...........about/aboot    If it starts with a vowel you add an 'h' to the front. If it starts with an 'h', you gotta drop it!  "Meet ya up da ouse", " Look up der, it's a hairplane", "Stay where you're at and I'll come where you're to". Though it may be English, sometimes even we wonder at it.  But I'll tell you something, I don't think there's any place in Canada where they can say they don't like Newfs.........of anyone, they are the most easy going, friendly people you want to meet. Next come the Capers.  They both likely laugh a lot because they can sneak those jokes past us hidden behind wicked accents.

I went to school when i was 5 and i could,nt speak a word of Scottish English....because my Father looked after me during the day..while my mother worked...and he taught me a mix of Russian/German and some Polski..thrown in for good measure....then when my mother came home..i was in bed..and my father worked nightshift....so i never got a chance to learn Scottish....and this went on until i was 7...then my father got a job quite far away...and it was very well paid,by fifties standards....buildi ng a dam up in the Highlands....and my mother and gran looked after me...then I was able to learn my mother tongue.....but i spoke with an accent right up to my tweens....then i found this place...and i,ve got to learn another bloody language....you know the old saying...can,t teach an old dog new tricks...well thats me.....

My GGMother came directly over here from County Cork. I remember her always busy working on knitting "muttens".

On the other hand, my Dad couldn't speak English when he started school...but he was fluent in Hungarian. Kinda like breeding chickens...I was the "Outcrop" result!
