Odd antique table.. Anyone know what type of table this is?
« on: September 20, 2012, 05:48:15 pm »
I am not sure if you can assist me in this question, but I have a table, that I can’t seem to find in any research and have dumbfounded a couple antique dealers.  There is a number stamped on the bottom, but I cannot find a name of the maker.  I cannot even find out what this type of table is called, to even be able to describe it.  Have you ever seen anything like this? It has claw feet, sits on top of a spindle, so it can be rotated to view what you would keep in the four cubbie spaces.  The wood carvings between the cubbie holes is beautifully done.  Do you think it has value? Anyone know the history?

Don`t know why an antique dealer would have a problem with this !! The tin capped metal feet says it was made late 20`s or 30`s,, its a revolving side table !!  Duncan Phyfe style is what most would know it as !! The style number that is on it would verify that time period !! Mfrs did not put names on their pieces as a rule and finding a particular one is near impossible !!  Each had many variations of a particular style,, thats why they are numbered !!  Confusing to them too I guess !! You might check Grand Rapids Furniture or Kittinger and see if its one of theirs,, but I don`t think it is !!

Looks like a (real) walnut Duncan Phyfe drum table ca. 1940.

Wow.. thank you so much.  I actually had a "reputable" antique dealer tell me how cute it was and that she'd make it a bar by putting a silver tray on the top and fill the sides with carafes and glasses.  Do you think it has any value?  I am moving and downsizing and don't want to part with it but the cost of moving across the country has me selecting items to keep, sell and give away.

Sure it has value,, but not enough to retire on !!  There is a lot of this style around but yours is at least a little bit unique since it revolves !! You might sell it at a better price if you took her advice and called it a vintage revolving mini bar !! That would be a good selling point !!  I would say it would bring $150. as a revolving side/lamp table or $200. as a bar !!  It all depends on how you spin the yarn !!
