Ok I have looked at about 78,000 images - ok well may only 10,000  ::) and I give up for tonight.

Everytime I look at this it reminds me of a mini coal shuttle except it would be a hanging handle.

Hopefully I will wake up tomorrow with just the right words in my head - yea right  LOL

I even googled "sauce boat" - still cracking up at some of the words I googled including "looks like aladdin's lamp without a top"

Ok was just kidding about that one.

Nite all.

You know, I 've actually got a small coal bin ca. 1870 from England that was designed specifically for kitchen use. This "Alladin's Lamp" would work perfectly with that.

Just sayin'

I keep thinking that too Mart and boy does this one have me bedazzled!!!  It resembles the shape of a sauce or gravy boat but that would be a really big sauce boat.  Not sure - just like to be able to state what it is when I post it  LOL   Of course I could just say "Vintage United Arab Republic Copper metal sauce or gravy boat, lamp oil pourer, open oil lamp or possibly a small coal shuttle or a scoop pouring bowl"   LOL

Believe me - those are the things that have been running through my head   :o :o :o

Now THAT covers it!

Here's my thoughts, another comment from the peanut gallery lol, I think it looks like it's from A.C. Moore, or Micheals Craft Store. You would put styrofoam in the bottom with fake flowers. Sorry kidden, I've been thinking this the whole time. I'm sure I'm wrong, but I can't help seeing it that way.

Don't be sorry greenacres.  I have actually used some metal containers from AC Moore for a variety of things.  And this might be one of those things that you would have to be holding in your hands.  I have only found a couple items on ebay that were from the United Arab Republic and they have the same patina or appearance.

It does look handcrafted and not mass produced but maybe it would not have to be to be exported.  One thing I can't figure out - the writing is on the bottom inside the pedestal and yet it looks worn down - almost illegible as if something had rubbed it off - interesting.

Maybe there was a bronze (I'd expect copper or brass to show more tarnish instead of this nice patina) alloy than was common to metalware made in the UAR? I don't think that part of the world was not very mechanized then (prior to the rise of OPEC) - I expect most things were handcrafted.

Kidden, can you tell how the bowl is attached to the pedestal? I have a wild idea that, if they were attached by some sort of process (like being hammered together while hot) that hardened that area of the metal, the lettering punches would not have marked the harder metal of the attachment as deeply as the softer surrounding metal - which might make more sense than that center area somehow having been worn down.

One of the ebay items gave me another wild idea by having a maker's mark in the bottom of the bowl. Is it my imagination, or is there an "S" (or maybe a snake) in a circle in the bottom of the bowl of your gravy boat/Aladdin's lamp/Lilliputian coal scuttle?
I'm not old.  I'm Mid-Century Modern.

You are right about the letter punches - didn't think of that even insofar as there is a curve to the area where the letters are.  Ok so not worn down.  haha and I really think I am going to stick to the Lilliputian coal shuttle   ;D Even if it doesn't make sense - it sounds pretty cute  LOL

I think this is going to be one of those things there is no clear answer on and I will do my best to post it.  The funny thing is that it isn't worth very much and I have spent hours researching this thing - all out of curiosity.

Oh and the pedestal base looks soldered on.
