PATENTED IN 1894 - ANY IDEAS ON WHAT THEY ARE ?
« on: September 23, 2012, 11:18:33 pm »
Do these look like urns or ewers to anyone? I've been trying to figure out what they are and why they were labeled Patented on March 13, 1894.  They are about 15" tall and when tapped on with your fingers they sound like they are made from some type of metal...reproductio ns???

I wouldn't think they were repo's ..... because they would be to costly to make.

That is a counter-weight in the bottom to prevent them from easily "tipping" over.

For art pieces that would be a style patent !!

Might have been previously used for lamps?

Can you post a pic from the top?

Only the shape says that they are urns or ewers !! Both of these would be hollow and would hold something !!  Is the patent number on both of them ??  Look like brass with a textured enamel !!

These appear to be 'decorator' items to my eyes & the paper label seems ...well , 'off' for the date printed upon it .... but might garner attention from a prospective buyer .

They look to be styled like a 1950s/60s version of the 1890s, not the 1890s themselves.

Well, I guess I'll put these aside. Maybe they are just a mix of different pieces that someone put together for home decor. The label is what threw me off. That's why I though they were reproductions etc.

I did research patents granted with the date of March 13, 1894 and found pliers, voting booth, something to feed hogs - nothing for ewers, granitures or urns....Guess I won't be selling them for awhile!
