History & value on buffet/sideboard

Hi.
New to this board. Fairly new to antiquing, so patience is appreciated...  :-)

I have a friend who may want to sell this piece.  I love the character it has, with the woodwork and the hardware. 
I could not find a manufacturer name on it or any other identifying information.  I want to consider buying it, but have no idea of the history/value/age of it.  It's probably 40" tall by about 60" long and maybe 24" deep.  Any ideas on what this may be?   I want to make an offer, but just not sure how much to throw out.

we will need more pics....take a drawer out and take a pic of the joints...they should be dove-tail....a pic of the back,.+...the thickness of the back ...so we can determine if it is wood planks or ply.....also how are the handles attached....then one or more of the resident wood butchers will give you their expert advice.....

what pic format have you used...as i can,t get it to open.....judging by the style..it looks to be late 30s early  40,s

I think Wullie's right on with those dates. This piece is near identical in trim and definitely the hardware to a bedroom set my parents purchased around the time they were married in 1940. Their set was mahogany (most likely veneer).

My parents also had the Sheraton style pulls on a bedroom suite from early 50`s !!

Nice piece.  Sheraton is still desired and gets average resale from an individual.
