Antique brass? Lamp
« on: October 08, 2012, 05:44:31 pm »
This lamp has been in my wife's family forever.   I can't find a signature so here I am.  It weighs about 15 lbs.

Her family is from central Pennsylvania and I know there was a decent amount of Tiffany's stained glass in the area.  Any way to check? Model #, markings, etc?

Lucky you! Have checked every inch for a signature? Sometimes if you take the shade off you can find one.

I would take it to a very reputeable appraiser and have it checked, but be careful!

At approx 15lbs it sounds like its made of bronze..the colour is coppery..which would indicate that it is Bismuth Bronze...which is made of 52%copper...30%nickel..12%zinc..5%lead...and 1%Bismuth...there is no real patination that i can see...it would help us if we could get the pics to open up...but i can,t give us pics of the underside of the base...and under the shade...this looks very interesting....

http://handellamps.com/lamps/teroca-shades/   Looks like a slag glass with metal overlay !! Check this site !! I would guess Handel rather than Tiffany but others made lamps like this too !!  You can send pics to see if its Handel at that site !!  Not all Handel lamps were marked !! Tiffany will be marked somewhere on the lamp !! It does not look like their style to me,, but I am no expert !!

Pittsburgh Lamp, Brass and Glass is another company that produced similar style lamps. Regardless, it's a great looking piece.

Not Tiffany - maybe miller or pittsburgh, doubtful if it's Handel. Probably made in the 1920s. If it's in flawless condition it may be worth anywhere from $400 and up, depending on location. Gorgeous!!!
