I love that word. 
we loved it too as children...we used to make our own...we,d save up our pennies...then when we had sixpence, we,d run off to the chemist shop and but 4 sticks of liquorice...as they were only sold in 4,s...but 4 sticks made 4 pts,...then we,d go down to the pub,....and salvage 4 liquor bottles....then back home,...break i stick into smaller pieces, put them into a bottle, add 4 ozs of fine suger and fill the bottle with cold water, stick the cork in,then put the bottle into a dark cupboard...and leave it for a month....that month was always the longest month of our young lives.....we kept checking it almost daily...wishing the water would turn darker more quickly....it never did.....it always took a month...
then when the month was up..we,d get our bottles of sugerelly...and savour that dark sweet liquorice taste....as if it was the Nectar of the Gods, ....great memories....
