OMG mart.......I don't know what I would do if I had even a small portion of that to deal with. I know we'd never be able to handle anything near that for vet bills, yet not doing it would kill me inside. That is one thing I have to be thankful for with our dogs......while they may have needed a lot of help and healing, it was emotional and psychological, not physical.

When I hear the garbage that is spewn about how dangerous these dogs are I don't see red, I go blind from rage. You only need to look at the other end of the leash.......or chain, or 2 X 4........to see the real problem. It doesn't seem to matter how much proof, how many voices, how many hearts express the truth......there will sadly always be those who shout above all others and fan the flames of misplaced fear.

mart, so sorry about your dog. Loosing a family member is tough. The rescue I got Butch from me read a book called "Fatal Dog Attacks" When the book was in print it was $20.00. I bought one with a whole in it for $80.00 on Amazon.com. In perfect condition itwas $325.00. It's a must read. The biggest biters are golden retrievers and shepards. Usually there are reasons why dogs bite. They just never tell that part of the story. This book is true facts and statistics and reality of dog biting. It's a must read! Every dog bites if put in the wrong situation!

Now...you are not going to believe what "breeds"....sell over here...for very high prices, for what is essentially a cross bread...or a mutt as i call them....Cocker spaniel/French poodle = cockapoo,....Jack Russell Terrier/French minature poodle = Jackadoodle,...Labrador/French poodle = Labradoodle,....Springer Spaniel/Cocker Spaniel = Sprocker......now there was a time over here, if you owned a pure bred dog...and it got caught by another pure bred, but of a different breed, ..then the resulting pups, meant that ...you would be stuck with them..as non pure breds....but could sell them as mongrels...or 57,sers,as i like to call them....after Heinz baked beans,..57 varieties....back to these designer mutts....there was one recently...in the paper a Cockapoo....male pup, 8 weeks old...for £675...or around a $1000...for a Mutt....the worlds gone ...Nuts......
I make no excuses,and no apologies....but i like a good Malt,

Dog fear goes through cycles !!  When I was a kid it was Chows,, then Shepards, Dobies followed that then Pits and Rottweilers !!  Problem with all the large breeds is so many think its cool to have a mean dog and they are trained that way !! Its not the dog thats the problem,, its stupid, dumbass people !! Yes, my soapbox it pretty big when I get started !!

I wholeheartedly agree with you Mart...over here...we have the same problem...the most hated dog at the moment is the Staffordshire Bull Terrier...or Staffie as it is more commonly called...its basically a smaller Pitbull,...and its the choice of dog...for what we call the Cardboard gangsters....young Neds..who think its cool to have a Staffie...wearing a heavily studded harness..and they strut about...with there dogs...which in some cases have been used as a weapon...there was a case recently where one rather nasty individual, had gotten hold of a Pitbull, and he,d bred it with a Staffie....the end result being...a fighting machine....that he was using...for  illegal dog fighting....and Badger baiting....Our laws are pretty archaic, when it comes to owning a dog....and its only in the past few years that the authorities have woken up,and started to clamp down on what breeds, are allowed, but they have not went far enough,
I am of the opinion that we should adopt, the German way...when it comes to owning a dog that is deemed to be of a dangerous nature,.see link

Ahh, but the kicker there is that those dogs deemed to be 'dangerous' in nature are in truth and fact NOT.  There has been extensive research done into the 'breed factor'..........and those breeds ALL score well above average for GOOD temperament.  This is where so much goes wrong. If a dog has proven ITSELF to be dangerous, then it should be treated as such.........breed should NEVER enter into the factor. But......and this is a big but, potential owners of dogs of the same breeds should be screened,  trained and licensed in order to properly raise and train one.........it all goes back to the other end of the leash.
