Can you help me identify and put a value on this desk?
« on: November 04, 2012, 12:43:34 pm »
Thanks in advance for your help.  I have tried to research it, but I am a newbie.  I will try to give all the pertinent info.

- Recently acquired from my parent's downsizing, this has been in their home for at least 50 years.  That is all I know about it's age.
- Size in inches:  50long 33wide 29tall
- condition is as shown in pics with no flaws hidden  there is minor wear on the ton and chair scrapes on the bottom.  There is no key.  There are no repairs needed that I can find.  It appears to be the original satin finish.
-  All drawers are full depth
-  closeup pic shows dovetails
-  closeup pic shows sawmarks
-  the only markings I can find, and I looked everywhere, were the ink stamps "B.C.C."  and "6" on the bottom side of the center drawer.
-  The assembly screws are flatheads

I would like to identify it and put a value on it.  All input will be appreciated.  :)

Thank you,

A beauty! Looks like early 20th century (1910-30) mahogany, a little Empire revival, a little craftsman, very nice indeed. I don't know where you are, but in mid-Missouri it would be worth somewhere around $1K or better.

I personally might date it a little later but that is irrelevant as far as value !! Agree with Craftsman with a touch of Empire Revival and approx value !! Good thing about this desk is that it can be blended with many of todays styles !! Its not too much of anything and size is perfect for most use !!

Thanks you guys.  That helps alot.  If anyone else concurs or has another opinion higher or lower on price, please speak up.  I am going to have to sell it and want to price it fairly, but not leave much moola on the table.  BTW, I am in Alabama.

Thank you,
Scott

Should not be too difficult to sell but keep in mind that the market is not great now !! So look at sales in your area and be prepared to deal a bit on price !!

Nice !! Wish I had that instead of wood !! But since we are on sugar sand it would crack here even with a good foundation !!
