I was thinking it was a melting pot for lead shot. Or for measuring gunpowder.

Could we get a close up of the backside ?? And need to know how did you come by this item, your location, and its size !! Approx how much dry measure does it hold ?? Easy way to figure that is to use a measuring cup, 1/4 or 1/3 C. ect and see if its more or less than these !! Then weigh the correct amount !!   Sometimes if the weights come up even could be a seed measure !!  I buy most of mine in either 1/4 or 1/2 lb packages,, a few are in ounces !!  Also look at it and see if a measure amount is written anywhere,, May be worn off though !!

There are no markings on the back. The picture of the can of beer should give you a size comparison...lol. It was given to a friend of mine in a box full of items donated to her consignment shop.

Wow. Thanks Mart. That thing is tiny. I thought from the first pic it was big. I am stumped. I would guess it was for pouring a small amount of  powder as in filling a shotgun shell.

I found out what it is. It is a personal cigar ashtray that came with a kit that was distributed by Old King Cole Cigars in the 1920's.

Funny I thought it was a cigar ashtray, but I would have been guessing. Although now that the size is so small I really don't know. Could you rest a spoon on it?

Well, I,d be more inclined to believe it is a travelling ashtray....than anything else...and whoever told you it was,nt....well,until they come up with cast iron proof as to what they think it is...then ...A Travelling Ashtray is what it is.... ;D

Well, I can`t tie it in  with any brand of cigar,,I looked up a bunch of personal cigar ashtrays of the 20`s and found it very similar to many and almost identical to one made by Tiffany,, except Tiffany made it from sterling and this is not !!
So I would believe that it is a personal ashtray from that approx period !!  No record I found that Old King Cole ever made one !!

Hey Mart! I do appreciate your help! I would love to find out the value of this item. It is made of copper and has an elaborate etching pattern.
