OLd tools?
« on: November 22, 2012, 09:37:51 am »
Hi all,

Happy thanksgiving!

I'm new to the forum, but was searching the internet to see if I could find out
more about this old tool that I have. A tenant left it at one of my properties years
ago, and I haven't been able to find another picture online anywhere of one similar.

I call it a weed whip, but not sure if that's the appropriate name or not.
Regardless, it's one of those things that you swing from side to side in front
of you to cut down the weeds.  The handle is worn and of course the blade is rusty.

Anyone have any ideas? name? history? age? what part of the country most commonly used?
And of course, what's it worth?

Thanks so much!
I've enjoyed what I've read so far on the forum - what a great resource and community
you are!

Thanks for the info!

So ...  if everyone has one, I'm presuming they're not worth much, huh?

Thanks again!
Make it Great

We use to always call them sling knifes.   :)  They will give you a work out, and you don't want to be standing near anyone using it. I have two hanging in the barn.

I honestly don`t know what the original name was !!  They were called many different names by localities !! Yes,, you want to stay far away when in use !!

We called ours the weed whackers and would get wild with them so dad would finally get after us.

However, I believe they are called Double Edged, serrated weed cutters.
